There have always been people who thrive under difficult and unpleasant working conditions, and who, even after grueling careers, remain youthful and healthy. Put different people in the same situation and some thrive while others suffer. It’s not the situation that causes you to suffer, but your reaction to it. The Alexander Technique can teach YOU to be in charge of your reaction – to stop doing the wrong thing and allow the right thing to “do itself.”


Frederick Matthias Alexander (1869-1955) saw the individual as a whole, and talked not of “the body”, but of “the self”; not of “posture”, but of “use”. The aim of his technique is to teach individuals to become increasingly aware of their automatic and habitual responses and to learn to consciously control how they react. In the process, individuals learn to restore their natural coordination and balance and create the conditions to use themselves in a way that is natural, elegant, and efficient.
