F.M. Alexander was an
Australian actor who
developed this method in the 1890s. In an effort to regain his voice
after experiencing career-halting vocal trouble, Alexander discovered
several fundamental principles governing human functioning. With this
new discovery, Alexander rid himself of his vocal troubles while
improving his breathing, coordination and overall functioning. He went
on to develop a method for teaching others how to stop interfering with
their natural poise and functioning and return
to a healthy, balanced state.
