About Lauri Elizabeth
I trained at the Oregon Center for the Alexander Technique and am certified by the
American Society for the Alexander Technique (AmSAT), the largest professional organization
for Alexander Technique teachers in the United States. It establishes and maintains the
nation's highest standards for teacher training, certification, and membership.
I discovered the Alexander Technique while earning a music degree at Northwestern University.
My study of the technique has helped me with performance anxiety, avoiding injury, and maintaining
calm in the face of stress. It has been a gratifying exploration of human functioning, especially
as I learn new skills, like fire dancing, acrobatics, knitting, and biking in the city. I feel very
lucky to have the opportunity to teach the Alexander Technique, where I get to witness my students’
excitement at being able to achieve something that was unattainable before
(everything from an anxiety-free performance to being able to run again after 20 years).
I am currently teaching private students in SE Portland. I am also an Adjuct Faculty member in
the Music Department at Marylhurst University teaching the Alexander Technique to musicians.
